Culture Raises ₹2 Crore Seed Round Led by Acuvest Infra to Redefine Social Networking in India

Hyderabad-based social networking startup Culture has secured ₹2 crore in a seed funding round led by Acuvest Infra. The capital will be used to strengthen product development, scale technology and moderation systems, expand user acquisition, and build partnerships with creators and community venues across major Indian cities.

Product focus: real-time, interest-driven conversations

Founded by Anurag Rangineni, Culture positions itself as an alternative to algorithm-driven feeds and vanity metrics. The app emphasises live, interest-led video conversations over likes and follower counts, aiming to reduce performance pressure and encourage authentic interaction—an approach that resonates with younger Indian users increasingly concerned about digital wellbeing.

Safety and moderation

Safety is central to Culture’s design. The platform requires verified profiles and phone-number authentication to curb anonymity-related misuse. It also deploys AI-powered moderation that can detect and halt sessions involving harassment, explicit content or other policy violations, reinforcing a safer environment compared with many random-chat and social discovery services.

Creator-led ‘Spaces’ to deepen engagement

Culture plans to roll out “Spaces,” creator-led interactive zones where influencers, educators and community leaders can host live discussions, ticketed talks, hybrid events and brand collaborations. These features aim to tap the growing creator economy by enabling monetisation beyond ad revenue, allowing creators to build niche communities and partner with physical venues such as cafés and cultural hubs.

Use of funds and growth strategy

The seed proceeds will be channelled into product enhancements, technology infrastructure, community partnerships and safety systems. The startup plans targeted hiring and user-acquisition activities—campus activations, café tie-ups and creator collaborations—focusing on organic, community-driven growth rather than large-scale advertising.

Future plans and market positioning

While current efforts are India-first, Culture has indicated plans to explore international markets over time. Potential revenue streams under consideration include premium subscriptions, advanced creator tools and native advertising formats that align with user interests. Investors cited Culture’s emphasis on accountable moderation and interest-led engagement as key differentiators that could support sustainable growth.
