India’s growing creator economy faces a persistent obstacle: locating and booking suitable hourly spaces for shoots, workshops, auditions and small events. Delhi NCR‑based startup Spare Space has launched a tech-enabled marketplace to simplify discovery, instant booking, payments and management for creators and venue owners.
Addressing a fragmented market
Until now, creators frequently rely on scattered Google searches, Instagram DMs and phone calls to confirm availability, negotiate rates and secure venues. Real‑time availability and standardised pricing are rare, making the process slow and uncertain.
Spare Space centralises discovery and booking by listing studios, event spaces and creative venues with hourly rates, amenity details and availability calendars. Users can filter by location, capacity, activity type and facilities, compare options and receive immediate confirmation, reducing back‑and‑forth and planning delays.
How the platform works
The marketplace supports a range of use cases including photoshoots, brand campaigns, rehearsals, workshops and small indoor events. Each listing shows hourly pricing and features so photographers, filmmakers, trainers and independent creators can match spaces to project requirements quickly.
For hosts, Spare Space offers a dashboard to manage time slots, set dynamic pricing and track reservations. Integrated payment processing collects fees upfront, lowering the risk of last‑minute cancellations, while reviews and identity verification help build trust between parties.
Founding background and early traction
Founder Khayat Chakerverty, who has over five years’ experience in creative production across India and overseas, conceived the marketplace after repeatedly encountering booking inefficiencies. His experience informed the platform’s marketplace model and operational features.
Spare Space has listed more than 140 live spaces across Delhi NCR and facilitated bookings for professional projects and brand shoots. The startup plans to consolidate its presence in the National Capital Region before expanding to other major hubs such as Bengaluru and Mumbai.
Longer‑term vision
Beyond hourly rentals, the company aims to build a broader creative infrastructure ecosystem. Planned services include equipment rentals, curated access to freelance professionals and integrated end‑to‑end offerings to support production workflows, which could further formalise and professionalise the market for short‑term creative venues.
As India’s influencer economy, independent creators and digital production activity grow, platforms that bring transparency, flexible hourly access and reliable operations may help unlock underused real estate and provide dependable, on‑demand infrastructure for creative projects.
