The Maharashtra government has signed a ₹2,500 crore memorandum of understanding with Nutrifresh Farm Tech India Pvt. Ltd. and Rural Enhancers Group at the World Economic Forum in Davos, marking one of the state’s largest commitments to technology-driven, climate-smart agriculture. The partnership aims to modernise farming, strengthen rural livelihoods and attract sustained domestic and international investment in agri-infrastructure and digital farming.
Project rollout and governance
The MoU was formalised in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and senior officials. Implementation is slated to begin in April 2026, with a phased rollout across Maharashtra’s key agricultural regions. The state government will provide policy support, regulatory facilitation and institutional coordination to enable smooth execution.
Technology, scale and investor mix
Nutrifresh will lead deployment of advanced agri-technologies, including AI-powered farm-management systems, IoT-enabled monitoring and controlled-environment farming. These measures are designed to stabilise yields across seasons, reduce climate-related risks and improve resource efficiency.
The Rural Enhancers Group will act as funding partner and project integrator, mobilising capital from a blended mix of domestic and international sources—Indian public sector banks, development finance institutions and overseas lenders—while prioritising affordability and farmer participation.
Climate resilience and inclusive growth
A key objective of the programme is to build climate-resilient agriculture through efficient water use, reduced reliance on chemical inputs and sustainable crop management. The project also targets rural employment generation, increased participation of women in agribusiness and development of allied sectors such as agri‑tourism.
By establishing structured market linkages and technology-backed farming models, partners expect to raise farmer incomes, lower post-harvest losses and improve the availability of residue‑free, nutrient-rich produce year-round.
Company background and strategic intent
Founded in 2019, Nutrifresh has expanded rapidly across more than 15 Indian states and into select international markets. Under the Maharashtra agreement, the company plans to scale its tech-enabled farming model, increasing its farm footprint while aligning growth with state-led rural development objectives.
Officials say the Maharashtra partnership is intended as a flagship public–private model to demonstrate how large-scale agri‑innovation can be deployed to drive sustainability, productivity and inclusive economic benefits across India’s agricultural landscape.
