Meesho Unveils Gen-AI Assistant Vaani to Make E-Commerce More Accessible and Conversational

Meesho has launched Vaani, a generative AI voice assistant designed to simplify online shopping for users across India, especially in Tier II and Tier III cities. The feature aims to make product discovery, selection and checkout more intuitive by enabling natural spoken interaction instead of typed searches.

Conversational shopping that mimics human dialogue

Vaani adds a conversational layer to Meesho’s app, allowing users to speak their requirements and follow-up queries in natural language. The assistant understands contextual questions, helps refine choices and surfaces products, reviews and recommendations in response to multi-step conversations.

This voice-first approach targets customers who find typing or navigating menus cumbersome, helping narrow the gap between offline assistance and online retail experiences.

End-to-end assistance across the purchase journey

Unlike basic voice search tools, Vaani is built to support the entire shopping flow — from discovery and comparison to checkout and order confirmation. It provides product specifications, seller information and curated suggestions, enabling more informed purchase decisions.

The system is designed to manage multi-turn dialogues so interactions feel personalised and human-like, reducing friction at each stage of the transaction.

Designed for India’s linguistic and regional diversity

Meesho says Vaani is developed on advanced AI architecture to deliver faster responses and efficient on-device processing where applicable. The assistant has been trained to capture regional language nuances and everyday speech patterns, improving relevance for India’s heterogeneous user base.

Vaani is currently available in English and Hindi, with plans to roll out additional regional languages to broaden accessibility.

Early traction and measurable impact

Since launch, Vaani has crossed the one-million-user mark, according to Meesho. The company reports higher conversion rates among users who use the voice assistant and a reduction in returns and cancellations, suggesting increased confidence and satisfaction.

Implications for e-commerce inclusion

Meesho positions Vaani as a tool to onboard millions of users into the digital commerce ecosystem by lowering the technical and language barriers to online shopping. As conversational AI matures, voice-driven interfaces like Vaani could play a pivotal role in making e-commerce more accessible, conversational and user-friendly across India.
