Secret Alchemist has secured $3 million (about ₹27 crore) in a seed funding round led by Unilever Ventures, with participation from DSG Consumer Partners, as India’s fragrance and personal care market shifts toward premium, ingredient‑transparent and wellness‑oriented products. The capital will support the brand’s expansion of fragrance offerings, R&D and wider distribution across online and offline channels.

From aromatherapy origins to a fragrance‑first positioning

Launched in 2021 by Ankita Thadani and Akash Valia, Secret Alchemist began as a wellness brand centred on aromatherapy and essential oils. The founders observed a gap in the Indian market for fragrances that combine sensorial appeal with safety and ingredient transparency, prompting a strategic shift toward contemporary perfumery informed by aromatherapeutic principles.

The repositioning helped the brand resonate with urban Indian consumers who increasingly prioritise ingredient clarity and wellness benefits in personal care. Secret Alchemist now presents itself as a clean‑fragrance label that blends modern scent profiles with formulations designed for daily use.

Celebrity association and market visibility

Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu later joined as a co‑founder, a move that increased the brand’s visibility and amplified its appeal among younger, digitally active consumers. Her association reinforced the company’s positioning around mindful, clean living and aided digital marketing reach.
